Church Government

The Evangelical Free Church of America is committed to a congregational form of government as states in article 10 of their Confession of Faith.  From its very beginning in 1921, the governing body of the Community Evangelical Free Church has been its members, which convenes twice a year in April and October for regular business meetings and as needed for specially called meetings.  However, in order to facilitate the efficient management of church business and the spiritual needs of the Body, individuals from the membership are elected to serve in leadership positions within the Church.  All Boards meet monthly with the exception of the the General Board, which meets  quarterly, or as necessary to conduct business.

The Board of Elders

Elders are men of mature Christian character who are called by God to be co-shepherds of the flock, working as equals with the Senior Pastor in his role as Elder, in safeguarding, promoting and overseeing the spiritual welfare of our Church.  The Board of Elders consists of 3 to 5 Elders, in addition to the Senior Pastor.

The Board of Deacons and Deaconesses

Deacons and deaconesses are servant-leaders in the mold of Jesus Christ who seek to imitate Christ's compassionate, unselfish concern for those in distress.  The number of deacons and deaconesses is determined by the size of the congregation, with one deacon and deaconess responsible for twenty adult congregants.  The Vice-Chairman of the Church may also be selected from one of the Deacons.

The Board of Trustees

Members of the Board of Trustees are responsible for all church properties and their maintenance, for the care of all church documents and for the financial welfare of the Church.  The Board of Trustees consists of three - five Trustees plus the three Church Officers: the Treasurer, the Financial Secretary and the Recording Secretary.

The Executive Board

The Executive Board oversees and administrates the business of the Church and carries out any decisions made by the Membership. This Board consists of the Church Chairman and Vice Chairman, the Board of Elders, all Pastoral Staff, the Youth Pastor or Director, one Deacon, one Deaconess, one Trustee, the three Church Officers and any others as deemed necessary by the Executive Board. The Executive Board meets monthly to discuss Church business.

The General Board

The General Board consists of the Executive Board, the Chairperson (or representative) from all current and existing Committees and Church Ministries, and the leaders (or representative) of all current and existing Church Organization.
